Added functionality in the MCat6 February 08 update

Zooming parts in the parts view

Double click the mouse in a part to zoom in.

The previous method of drawing a rectangle first is still working:

Before, only the handle in the upper left corner of the passage could be used to select the passage, now the whole passage can be used. To be able to draw a rectangle inside a passage without selecting/dragging the passage, press the ‘Alt’ key as you create the rectangle.

Use ‘-‘ or ‘Esc’ to zoom out the active part.

Parts View toolbar, bar based or passage based selection

Un-zoomed parts now have two different modes for selection, one for selecting passages and one for selecting bars. The list item to the right on the toolbar is used to choose one of the two modes:

For selection of passages, have ‘Passage Select’ chosen and press the mouse button to draw a selection rectangle touching all the passages you want selected:

If the parts are heavily populated with passages, and it is hard to find a free spot to start drawing the rectangle, the drawing can start inside a passage provided that the ‘Alt’ key is held down to avoid the clicking to be interpreted as the first step of a click-drag operation with the passage.

On releasing the mouse button, the selected passages will be marked with red color:

For selection of bars, have ‘Bar Select’ chosen and press the mouse button to draw a selection rectangle covering the bars/parts you want selected:

The selection rectangle stays marked after the release of the mouse button, indicating the area that can be copied, cut or dragged.

When a part is zoomed (by double clicking or otherwise), it will always behave in the same ‘event selection’ manner, regardless of the selection mode chosen for the un-zoomed level.

The snap values set for Passage-, Bar-, and Event –selection modes are remembered separately, and is restored when the mode is changed.

Paste special

After having copied something selected to the clipboard using the shortcut Ctrl+C or ‘Copy’ from the Edit menu, it can be pasted into the song in a different position by using the shortcut Ctrl+V or ‘Paste’ from the Edit menu. The receiving area must fit the material pasted, both regarding part types and beat signatures.

The Paste special dialog offers more paste options than the ordinary paste. The Paste special dialog is opened by selecting ‘Main menu>Edit>Paste special’:

In addition to defining the paste position by giving the uppermost part and first bar, the paste can be set to be repeated a given number of times. The way the pasted material is combined the existing material in the area can also be varied, a ‘Mode’ setting of ‘replace’ will delete the existing material before pasting the new, and ‘insert’ will insert new bars with the pasted material at the paste point, shifting the existing material after the paste point to later in the composition.

Here we see the result of pressing ‘Ok’ in the dialog above, with the 3 copied bars being pasted 3 times in sequence:
